Congratulations America

It's a historic night for us.

Say it ain't so!

So it's official...Sarah Palin lacks ethics. Even with a "jaundiced eye," it was clear that something was not right with the Troopergate scandal. The report today confirms that Palin did, indeed, use her professional power to promote her own agenda. There's a shocker.

"Speculative Investment Activities"

In a recent congressional hearing Rep. John Mica (R) of Florida called the AIG scandal "speculative investment activities." There's an understatement if I've ever heard one. When a company has to take out a government loan to avoid bankruptcy, they should be grateful to still have their asses. They should not be golfing and getting massages at the St. Regis. Ridiculous.

Obama: the anti-Christ

This is an e-mail that my friend's father actually gave her to read:

"This is a matter of opinion and opinions are like (well you know) everybody has one.

A lot of Americans have become so insulated from reality that they imagine that America can suffer defeat without any inconvenience to themselves.

Pause a moment, reflect back.

These events are actual events from history..

They really happened!!!

Do you remember?

1. 1968 Bobby Kennedy was shot and killed by a Muslim male extremist.

2. In 1972 at the Munich Olympics, athletes were kidnapped and massacred by Muslim male extremists.

3. In 1979, the US embassy in Iran was taken over by Muslim male extremists.

4. During the 1980's a number of Americans were kidnapped in Lebanon by Muslim male extremists.

5. In 1983, the US Marine barracks in Beirut was blown up by Muslim male extremists.

6. In 1985 the cruise ship Achille Lauro was hijacked and a 70 year old American passenger was murdered and thrown overboard in his wheelchair by Muslim male extremists.

7. In 1985 TWA flight 847 was hijacked at Athens, and a US Navy diver trying to rescue passengers was murdered by Muslim male extremists. (remember the pilot of this flight was from Richmond, MO)

8. In 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 was bombed by Muslim male extremists.

9. In 1993 the World Trade Center was bombed the first time by Muslim male extremists.

10. In 1998, the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were bombed by Muslim male extremists.

11. On 9/11/01, four airliners were hijacked; two were used as missiles to take down the World Trade Center and of the remaining two, one crashed into the US Pentagon and the other was diverted and crashed by the passengers. Thousands of people were killed by Muslim malee extremists.

12. In 2002 the United States fought a war in Afghanistan against Muslim male extremists.

13. In 2002 reporter Daniel Pearl was kidnapped and murdered by--you guessed it--Muslim male extremists.

Now, I really don't see a pattern here to justify profiling, do you? So, to ensure we Americans never offend anyone, particularly fanatics intent on killing us, airport security screeners will no longer be allowed to profile certain people...Absolutely No Profiling!

They must conduct random searched of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, secret agents who are members of the President's security detail, 85-year old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal of Honor winner and former Governor Joe Foss, but leave Muslim Males alone lest they be guilty of profiling.

According to the Book of Revelation:

The Anti-Christ will be a man, in his 40's, of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have MASSIVE Christ-like appeal...the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, he will destroy everything.

And Now:

For the award winning Act of Stupidity Of all times the People of American want to elect, to the most Powerful position on the face of the Planet -- The Presidency of the United states of America...A Male of Muslim descent who is the most extremely liberal Senator in Congress (in other words an extremist) and in his 40's/

Have the American People completely lost their Mind of just the Power of Reason???

I'm sorry but I refuse to take a chance on the 'unknown' Candidate Obama...

Let's send this to as many people as we can so that the Gloria Aldreds and other stupid attorneys along with Federal Justices that want to thwart common sense, feel ashamed of themselves -- if they have any such sense.

As the writer of the award winning story 'Forest Gump' so Aptly put it, 'Stupid Is As Stupid Does'

Each opportunity that you have to send it to a friend or Media outlet...do it! Or again...Just delete if you disagree."

Wow, I'm all heated from typing that up. Absolutely ludicrous! I copied this verbatim from the e-mail, leaving the grammatical and punctuational errors in for effect. Get yourselves ready for the end of the world...you've been warned.

the "debate"

Well, I guess it could have been worse. McCain could have dodged more questions (maybe..?) and Obama could have said "John is right" more (again, maybe...?). Honestly, the man I declare the winner is - drum roll please - Jim Lehrer! That man is the most patient human being on the face of the planet. He managed to be completely even-tempered, even when having to repeat the SAME lead questions multiple times. In all seriousness, though, what was the point of McCain even showing up? He might have been better off actually following through with his threat to "suspend" his campaign. Obama tried to engage McCain multiple times by attempting to address him face to face and not once did Senator McCain look Obama's way. I thought it was completely rude and disrespectful. Also, McCain frequently called Obama's intelligence into question ("I don't think Senator Obama understands..."). Who's the elitist now?

Parlez Vous Francais?

Bill Saporito's article "The United States of France" can be found here.

"This is the state of our great republic: We've nationalized the financial system, taking control from Wall Street bankers we no longer trust. We're about to quasi-nationalize the Detroit auto companies via massive loans because they're a source of American pride, and too many jobs — and votes — are at stake. Our Social Security system is going broke as we head for a future in which too many retirees will be supported by too few workers. How long before we have national health care? Put it all together, and the America that emerges is a cartoonish version of the country most despised by red-meat red-state patriots: France. Only with worse food."

Break out the freedom fries!

Just a clip from Bill Maher's show.

Amen

From Alex Jones' "The Power of No":

"The news media's passive willingness to be used by campaigns is bad enough.  But add to that the effort to stifle serious questioning of such things as Sarah Palin's political history -- a journalistic inquiry that is central to the role of a responsible press.  The public's broad contempt for press coverage of the stupid stuff creates fertile ground for silencing legitimate, tough reporting...It is time for news organizations to stop being shills and for serious political reporters to stop being hacks...Don't play the campaign game.  Don't scramble after the next shiny object the campaigns throw your way.  Take yourself and your work seriously.  If the subject is stupid, say so.  And say no."

In (arguably) the most important election this country has ever seen, we've got to stop buying into the crap.  The media aren't the only ones playing the "campaign game."  They'll cover whatever gets them ratings, so let's tell them what we want to hear.  I don't care who called who a pig.  I don't care that Palin has great legs.  Let's make the press actually cover the issues...there's a novel concept.

These colors don't run

Seven years later and still no bin Laden.  I just don't understand how one man can manage to be so difficult to capture.  It's like a bad Looney Tunes cartoon where bin Laden is Bugs Bunny and Petraeus et al are running around the desert "hunting for tewowists."

The New York Times reported yesterday that President Bush put on his invisibility cloak again (you know, the one that allows you to be super stealthy in order to undermine any semblance of fairness) and approved classified orders allowing Special Ops to conduct ground attacks on Pakistani soil without approval from Pakistan's government.  Maybe I haven't been keeping up too well lately, but I thought we were trying to work with the Pakistani government to combat terrorist regimes.  Husain Haqqani, Pakistan's ambassador to Washington, said of one-such attack last Wednesday, "Unilateral action by the American forces does not help the war against terror because it only enrages public opinion."  Wow...way to go guys.

Palin's first interview

Eh.  That pretty much sums it up for me.  Just eh.  I'm really not impressed.  We've waited so long to actually hear something substantive from Palin, and I don't think this did it.  I will give her credit, though, she seemed to be at ease in the interview.  Even when faced with references to the "Bush Doctrine" that she clearly didn't understand, she managed to sidestep (like a true politician) and avoid answering the question.  The only things she really seemed to have an opinion about were drilling in the ANWR and invading Russia.  Does her lipstick outweigh her issues?  I'm not so sure.

Dear Jesus, please make me straight

So I read today that Sarah Palin's church promotes "gay conversion."  They are publicizing a conference that pledges to be able to "pray away the gay."  I am unsure as to whether Palin shares this view, so I'd prefer not to criticize her personally (let's avoid another Obama/Rev. Wright situation).  People's belief in the power of prayer is not to be trivialized, but "converting" someone from gay to straight?  Really?  That seems a bit over the edge for me.  I can imagine the prayer circles now:

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know that sexuality is variable.

Yeah, right.
